I am big advocate of using natural, toxin-free (and even organic when possible) beauty care products for me and family. With more studies coming out every day on the shockingly harmful effects of the chemicals, preservatives, lab fabricated fragrances and cheaper ‘natural’ alternatives have on the functioning of organs of our body , I am more adamant than ever that those chemically loaded products from the brands that we all have grown up with and come to love (Johnson&Johnsons, Dove, Aveda and yes even Chanel )… no longer have a place in my home!
And here’s more from one of my favorite award winning Dubai based (but formulated in Germany) skin care and body care brands, Herbal Essentials!
Did you know that all of their products are made with Himalayan spring water and pure essential oils?
Also it’s free of the major nasties ( that are quite harmful to the body) that most branded products out on the shelves contain… and it’s certified cruelty free.
Herbal Essentials have a special offer this Eid with 20% of their products and complimentary delivery within the GCC! Just use code EID2016HE and also receive a surprise product with order. Don’t you just love surprises? I know I do
Ever wondered how to make your own blush or bronzer at home without all the nasty chemicals or preservatives that most branded makeup products are made with?

It’s that time! Summer has arrived with a bang and we are all anxiously packing our bags to go visit loved ones, explore an exciting new destination or just simply chill out in a home away from home. I was definitely one of those ‘over packers’ once upon a time, like a total diva I would literally take almost everything I owned even for a short weekend trip! After some enlightened wisdom and three kids later, I’ve learned to pack more efficiently and take the essentials along with me. Plus we need to leave room for shopping, right?
Once upon a time, I was on the cover of Beauty World Middle East magazine (yep that’s me) when it was just a humble but still rather exciting exhibition in Dubai…15 years ago? Since then it has grown and developed into this incredibly gi-nourmous (that’s gigantic and enormous in one word) event completely taking over the World Trade Center with international brands and celebrities flying from all parts of the world to take part. And there’s absolutely no way to see all that’s going on in one day.
This year they had a natural beauty/organic section present at the exhibition for the first time and I just had to go and visit to see who was present!
Coconut oil is nature’s gift for natural beauty lovers! We use it all the time in our house, here’s a quick, fun demo on how to use it in your natural beauty routine:
1. As a moisturizer for the body, and even for your face. I absolutely loooooove smelling like coconuts.
2. Oil Pulling! Swish some coconut oil around your mouth regularly to make your teeth whiter, clean out any unhealthy bacterias from your mouth for those perfect pearly whites.
3. Lipgloss on the go. Nothing is shiner and more emollient that coconut oil, super nourishing as well.
4. Makeup Remover. This really works- best makeup remover you could ever ask for!
5. Hair Treatment, place on the ends on the hair or all over for a deeper treatment. Leave on over night while you sleep and wash normally in the morning.
This is my everyday make up look that I wear just to go out and about, pick up the kids, play dates, meeting etc! I always have liked a very natural approach to make up, I believe in enhancing our natural beauty that God has given us as opposed to hiding and covering up everything.
I only use natural, toxin free makeup to make sure that my skin and health are always taken care of. Here’s what I use for my everyday look:
- Ecobrow gel for my eyebrows in Penelope
- Jane Iredale Concealer in Circle/Delete 1
- Jane Iredale Eye Pencil in White
- Tarte Mascara in Light, Camera, Lashes Black
- Dr Hauschka Blush in Matte & Shimmer Blush Trio
- Jane Iredale Lip Fixation in Fetish (only the gloss side)

I recently had the opportunity to attend a Face Yoga workshop at Jeanique Yoga and Pilates studio based in JLT. I have been hearing about this natural beauty technique for a few years now and I heard that with regular practice the effects on your face–lifting, firming, radiating–are outstanding. As an avid yoga fan myself, face yoga seemed like sensible progression in my natural beauty routine. The before and after photos you find on the internet are quite inspiring as well. Is it possible to have a natural face lift without knives, needles or expensive creams?
Even though Dubai has made it’s mark as one of the world’s leading cities (deservingly so), the availability of natural or organic beauty and skincare brands here in this dazzling city is still in its infancy. Already a huge trend in the US, UK and even Australia, I know plenty of us just order online directly from the brands themselves- with a click of the button all these yummy exciting new products can all be delivered to our door…along with a hefty delivery fee.
But which organic, natural brands are readily available here in Dubai? Is there a demand for such products here in a city so focused on big designer names?
Thanks to my modelling days in my late teens, I was exposed to the beauty and fashion industries in a big way. I had the first peek into all the biggest brands and latest launches in town. I quickly learned from the top professionals in the business what it meant to have a good skin care routine (plus I learned how to apply makeup like a pro). Since then I have bought and used all kinds of branded and non branded skin care products, all with various results.
