Guess what lovelies? I had the unbelievable opportunity to interview the beautiful Nitika Chopra, the inspirational Self Love Guru based out New York City. She has created quite a buzz on spreading self love and natural beauty to women across the US and even the around the globe. I have been following her on social media and her blog for sometime now, and I’ve always loved how she shares her personal stories so candidly and with an open heart. She truly is so charming and easy to talk to, no wonder so many women connect with her!
Read her more about Nitika below, be sure to check out her show on Z Living Network and her blog nitikachopra.com
Tell us more about what you do and your background.
I am talk show host and I also work with women mainly through a conversation of tangible self love- using beauty and style as an excess point to that. It’s really about getting people to be really clear about that self love is, as opposed to the esoteric “in the air” idea of it. I do this through my television show on Z Living, my blog, and also my live events throughout the country.
How did you start your career?
I was diagnosed with psoriasis at the age of 10, so self healing was a big part of my story. There was tremendous amount of emotional and physical pain throughout my younger years. The first time I felt true pure joy was when I started my career, when I was 27!
When I was 25, I was at total rock bottom with my health. I was doing everything natural, no medication, also self help and personal development- then I reached a breaking point.
I told my mom that I think God made medicine for a reason, so I started to taking it then in 2 weeks I was much better, literally skipping down the street. That’s was a hug step forward considering I unable to walk for 4-5 years of my life. I really make sure to marry the healing powers of east and west as they both have something very powerful to offer.
“The level of dis-ease that I had was deep and so big that for me as a human being to carry that and solve it, every moment that I was awake I was consumed by that.”
Since you are THE Self Love Guru, how do you people to achieve this?
It’s definitely multi-leveled. I basically start out by using myself as an example in what I have experienced in health, relationships, career and finance, etc. Then I make sure to clear things up with honesty- for example to clarify and really understand what is bothering you. Then there is the self-care and beauty aspect that works really well–pampering and lovingly taking care of your body.
How do you define self love?
When you are at peace with yourself. There were many points in my life that I wished I was prettier, skinner, richer, etc and frustrated and angered me. Now I focus on being at peace. This is my body that I have, this is my bank account that I have, these are the friends and relationships that I have, and that’s all perfect just as it is.
Gratitude is huge, but self love possibly has a depth to it that’s a little more that gratitude…it’s about deep acceptance.
Is self love linked to inner beauty and happiness in any way?
Yes, I feel that the more I can love my self, the more that I can love others just by seeing the truth of who they are. I don’t even see what their face feels like, but more what their soul is like. I feel it so deeply that it makes me so emotional when I think about it! Because I know myself that deeply.
What is your ‘self love’ routine like?
I have a lot friends, which wasn’t the case 8 years ago. They are a huge point of how I access self love- living life through sharing experiences and stories. We get to have fun together and that’s a really special thing.
Through beauty, I love to spend 20 minutes every evening to just luxuriate in a face mask or amazing essentials oils, it’s my time for myself. I take my time and enjoy it, it’s almost like a mediation for me. It’s me and my skin. My meditation is skin care… I love skin care and beauty products so much. It’s really easy for me to spend hours getting lost it in it!
Any specific brands that you love?
Arya essentials, my friend Shadow is the founder. Her products are so pure and has a slight indian ancestry to it and great ingredients, I really love it. I’m really picky about what I use on my skin and this is something that I always have on hand.
On a more personal note, do you have any specific religion or spiritual practices that you follow?
God is my best friend. We hang out all day long, every day. I always feel like he is holding my hand, I imagine him as something tangible and opposed to something omni present. I even make videos for him sometimes!
“If I know myself that deeply and you and I are the same, then I can love you just as much without even knowing you.”
How do you envision the evolution of your career?
My dream is to have an empire where I have product line and more television opportunities and services that people can have access to tangible self love, not just beauty products but also home decor, personal growth items, such as journals, candles – tools that can direct them towards their self love journey.
What does success mean to you?
I always thought that success meant getting the ’empire’ but in the last year and half I stopped feeling that- don’t get me wrong, I still want the empire – but I feel that in the past year having peace and happiness has become more important and will get me where I want to go faster.
What is your most successful moment/acheivement ?
Starting my business was a proud moment for me. I took a chance on myself and believed in myself more than anyone else did at the time! Having my own talk show and being spokesperson for QVC (a home shopping network) were big moments for me as well. Starting my business was probably the biggest one so far!
Any natural remedies that you can share ?
I use coconut oil for everything! Also using the least amount of make up as possible. There is always a time and place to get all dolled up of course, but my mom always said that there is no better natural remedy for your skin than just to let it breathe. For example right now, I have a tiny but of concealer on and some lipstick and that’s about it. I like to spend as many days as I can without any makeup on.
