5 Essential Oils I Cannot Live Without

I am firm believer that nature has a remedy for everything.  From headaches, common colds, digestive disorders, PMS, depression, to even Alzheimer’s disease and cancer, there is a way to heal the body through positive thought and the unlimited powers of mother nature; flowers, herbs, plants, spices, nuts, fruits and vegetables.

Did you know that essential oils are mankind’s first medicine?  In other words, mother nature’s gifts in their purest, most concentrated form. We have been using these precious oils for their healing properties from the times of ancient Egypt (recipes are recorded on Egyptian temple walls in hieroglyphics) and they are even mentioned repeatedly through out the Bible and other holy books.

It can literally take tons of a plant for example, just to make one pound of its pure and concentrated oil. When inhaled, placed on the body and even ingested (specific oils only), these oils are carried into the blood stream within seconds and can affect every cell of the body within 20 minutes time. That’s pretty amazing! I use various essential oils to help my children to recover from coughs and cold (I’ll give you the exact recipe in another post!), as insect repellant, for pain and fever relief, as a sleep aid, in my cooking, and even as my perfume!

I have an amazing book that I reference that lists an essential oil remedy for almost any ailment in existence. Isn’t that incredible? This little book of miracles has assisted me providing a natural platform to healing myself and my family in our everyday lives.

Here are my top five essential oils that I absolutely cannot live without:

  • Tea Tree oil

This is my go to remedy whenever I have a blemish or breakout!  Tea tree oil has anti-bacterial properties and helps to dry up the blemish faster then any beauty product I’ve ever bought. Also this is an excellent household cleaner for counter tops and play areas.

  • Eucalyptus Oil

This has helped my children to quickly recover from coughs and chest congestion.  Eucalyptus acts as a expectorant so I use this in my special mix to get them back on track as fast as possible.  Also you can put a few drops in a bucket of water under a steamy shower–it will infuse into the air and water vapor, immediately opening up the sinuses and chest.

  • Lavender Oil

Lavender instantly calms the nervous system, so if you find yourself worried and anxious often then carry a bottle of this in your handbag! I use this for my children (and myself) to help them sleep at night for a deep, restful slumber… and when I need them to calm down after a long busy day.

  • Frankincense Oil

When applied on the skin, frankincense has anti-aging effects and has been used through out time for holy ceremonies of various religions.  It has “cleansing” properties and it can help harness the power of our spiritual connection on a emotional, spiritual and mental level.  The perfect oil to use in meditation or yoga practice.

  • Peppermint Oil

An excellent remedy for fever and pain relief.  Place a drop of peppermint oil on each of your feet (the fastest way to get into the body due to the feet’s open pores) or affected area every 3-4 hours as necessary.

Caution:  Even though essential oils are totally natural in their origin, they can be extremely potent and should be used sparingly.  Do not mix oils together unless you know what you are doing!  For children and pregnant women, only certain oils are safe to be used and should be diluted in a carrier oil such as almond oil, coconut oil, etc when applied on the body.
