I have observed that many parents will go out of their way to find organic or natural products, foods, and environments for their children but do not always do the same for themselves! Why is that? I believe that I am the role model for my children. My behavior, actions, even words all play a big part in shaping my children’s understanding of life while building strong core values and principles. What I do for them, I do for myself…for the most part!
I really make a big effort to understand what I am buying, whether it is our food, cleaning products for the house, and also skin care and makeup. I studied marketing and advertising in University and worked in that field as a professional for a few years. It became very clear to me that the product packaging doesn’t necessary relate to the ingredients inside and can be made to be misleading and simply put, to sell.
That’s when I began to study what exactly is in the products I had been using regularly. I quickly came to realize that I was actually ingesting and slathering myself with all kinds of dangerous chemicals and toxins! It came as a surprise and a great disappointment that governments and regulatory bodies could allow this. Is it ignorance or greed? Or a maybe little bit of both…
I have discovered some wonderful natural branded beauty products during my search for quality brands that are really what they say they are.
Here are a few I would like to share with you:
- Neal’s Yard Remedies
This is an amazing brand that has everything from skin care, supplements, essential oils, to mother and baby care and more. I currently use their almond moisturizer for sensitive skin and their rose facial wash- love them!
- Ila Skincare
This is a small skincare company based out of UK that use Rainforest extracts to create natural products that really work. I have been using their Rainforest renew eye serum for over a year now, it has a lovely texture that absorbs easily but still leaves the eye area pumped with moisture.
- Palmer’s Coco Butter Formula
While not all of their products are chemical free, I have been using their body oil almost daily for years. It is a combination of lots of lovely oils that aborb easily into skin without leaving your skin greasy or oily. Also their organic tummy butter saved me from stretch marks during all three pregnancies!! It’s incredible and I recommend it for any mom-to-be.
- Alterna Haircare
I recently discovered this haircare line co-founded by the actress Katie Holmes. They have managed to create a luxury haircare range with natural base ingredients without all the harsh toxins and chemicals that you find in most others on the market. I am very happy with the results so far. Their CC cream is amazing! I use it on my hair to keep it tame, moisturized and frizz free- and I even use it on my children’s hair.
- Shea Mirrage Shea Butter
Shea Butter is used in a plethora of products out there, but this brand’s supplies are straight from Africa where they source the shea butter in it’s purest form- and it’s organic! It is a superior moisturizer for the body, especially dry areas such as hands and feet. I use is it as a treatment on my lips before I sleep so they are always hydrated and ready for the next day.
Which natural/organic beauty brands have you found that you really love? Please share with me!
